RE: Hensley hitch

Yes, Hensley purchased TrailerSaver about 2 years ago. The factory is still in Kentucky.

RE: Electric Brake Problem finally fixed

Thanks. I get customer calls with this problem. I always suspected that but never had one here to look at. I always assumed it was in the 7-way. Your problem might be more common.

RE: Towing Site

In my never humble opinion, trailer towing courses should be mandatory before anyone buys an RV. I'd say, for $25, you've got nothing to lose. You'll probably hear much of what you can gain from this forum, but in a neat package and not nearly as many opinions. It doesn't look like he's selling anyting besides the course. If it helps with your confidence, go for it. Let us know how it is (and you can be the one giving all the advice).

RE: Brake controller question

It sounds like it may not be seeing your brake light switch. That's the red wire on the Prodigy. That's an easy fuse to blow, only 10amps. Does the Prodigy have an inidator light when you push the pedal? Check your wiring and that fuse. It should be labeled "Center brake light circuit" or some such thing. Yes, the controller would still work in manual if that were the case.

RE: Hitch, Sway, and Brake Controller.....Dealer Install?

This I have to disagree with. I'm a big fan of "do it yourself." If anything breaks on the road, you'll know how to fix it if you intstalled it yourself. Not depending on the dealer also opens your options to everything available on the market, not just what they happen to sell. Do your research and get what's best for you.

RE: Inexpensive Brake Controller ??

U-haul sells cheap ones. Or go online to SouthWest Weels or Brakecontrollers.com. You can get a timer or pendulum based controller for under $50. Be ready for that wonderful head snapping sensation at the toll booths, though!

RE: McKesh Mirrors on Sale!!!

Actually, it's $125 a pair.

RE: Sway control

I agree. Those little friction bars are absolute junk. Go with an Equalizer, Blue Ox, or Dual Cam.

RE: Towing Seminar

I've had the pleasure of seeing Andy in person. His insights are amazing. Suggesting that you can tow a big trailer with a small car is a quick way to start brawls on any towing forum, but we either have to start making changes or this lifestyle is going to get unnafordable for a lot of us real quick. Andy writes a monthly column for another magazine (RV Lifestyles, Canadian). He tests these tow vehicle/trailer combos. I'm a big fan. Definately check out the website.

RE: fuel mileage

Just a side note on diesel. If I understand the market correctly, fuel prices are driven partially by bidding just like other commodities. The price of diesel is being driven up because investors expect more people to switch from gas. Naturally, speculation is driving diesel to a price much higher than it should be. If that's the case, I'd expect the "bubble" to burst eventually and the price will stabilize. Okay, someone who knows more about the market please jump in and save me! Is Jim Cramer on this forum?

RE: fuel mileage

You have to remember that it takes years to recoup the cost of a new vehicle based on gas cost. If you factor gas costs into your overall traveling budget, you'll find it's not taking as big a chunk as you thought. And it's easy to adjust travel plans to shrink the cost as well. I had a customer write to me. He makes less than $25K a year but travels extensively in his '05 Airstream. He had lots of ways to save cash. By the way, he just bought a brand new Ford truck with a V10 gas engine for a less than $25K. It's amazing what you can save when you cut out all the extras.

RE: EVERY hensley owner needs this solution

Definately bad advice. Really, it's very easy once you've done it a few times. Obviously, the right parts would help.

RE: Tow vehicle preference

I've been very happy with the Avalanche. I tow a 33' Sunnybrook with it. It's 5.3L. I like the short wheelbase. Parking is much easier than with my full sized pick up.

RE: Anyone tow with electronic sway control? ie: Cayenne, X3 etc

I haven't heard much about the electronic sway control, but my understanding is that it controls the yaw of the truck, not the trailer. If it does applay trailer brakes, it's only as good as the wiring and brake magnets.

RE: Brake Controller

I like my TruControl. Very smooth. Cost is close to the Brakesmart, though.

RE: i am outta here

Maybe I'll hook up and head to the river, too. It would just have to be a heckuva big fire. Snow builds character!

RE: Smaller truck does good job:

Stop yourselves. All those guys with the hairy chests and 3/4 tons have to justify their 12mpg. In the meantime, I'll be waving at you from my Avalanche (5.3L) and 33' Sunnybrook. Yes, I'm doing 60. But I need to practice for my Florida retirement anyway. I should probably slow it down a little more.

RE: STABILITY

Now that might put a crimp in the ol' CAFE standards. Don't buy a dually for stability. Buy it for load. If your pin weight is heavy, go with a dually. If not, save your money and gas. People say the dually is more stable because they can't feel the trailer swaying (in the case of a TT). The trailer still sways and scares the daylights out the guy behind you. It can still flip over, too. Tow vehicles are just for pulling, not controlling poor hith setup.

RE: Air-Ride w/sway bars vs. Hensley/Pro-ride

Sway is a much bigger issue than bounce with a TT. With fivers the bounce is the issue. The weight distribution bars in any hitch system should absorb most of the shock if they're adjusted properly. Don't buy heavy duty spring bars unless you really need them as it's essentially the same as buying a stiff spring. You won't get as much shock aborption out of it. If you're feeling the shock in the tow vehicle, consider air bags (spring helpers) for the tow vehicle.

RE: Tow-Haul Mode

I've never noticed a difference with our without the t/h mode. According to a few here and on other forums, it's for the sake of the tranny, not so much the driver. Guess I'll use it. As for the last post, yes, the auto companies have a higher margin on larger vehicles. That's just common business practice. You sell the lower end vehicles at barely a brake even point to gain new buyers and establish brand loyalty.
